Jumbo Elliott Tops Jets Who Have Worn Number 76

As we approach the season, we are going to count down the history of Jets jersey numbers along with some of the notable players to wear each number. Today we will look at number 76.

Jumbo Elliott is best remembered for one play. It was the only reception of his 14 year NFL career, but it was perhaps the most iconic play in one of the most iconic games in NFL history. On a tackle eligible play, Elliott's juggling one yard touchdown catch tied the game that became known as the Monday Night Miracle at 37. The Jets had rallied from a 30-7 fourth quarter deficit, but the Dolphins had scored again to go ahead 37-30 ahead of Elliott's catch. The Jets eventually won the game in overtime.

Elliott spent the first eight years of his career with the Giants, winning a Super Bowl in 1990. Badly in need of an offensive line upgrade, the Jets signed him as a free agent prior to the 1996 season. Elliott spent six seasons with the team, but no moment was more memorable than that catch against the Dolphins.
