As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Wesley Johnson.
Name: Wesley Johnson
Number: 76
Year With Jets: 3rd
Projected Role: Competing for a backup interior line spot
His 2015: Johnson began the year on the practice squad. Despite the team carrying five backup lineman on the roster for much of the season, Johnson won an apparent practice competition to be the starting center prior to the game against Oakland. Nick Mangold was forced to miss it due to an injury. Johnson also saw extensive action in games against Jacksonville and Houston in which injuries forced Mangold to the sidelines. The results were not particularly stellar. Whenever Mangold misses time, there is bound to be a dropoff, but Johnson did not provide much to suggest he has the potential to be a quality starter.
2016 will be a success if: Johnson beats out his competition for the roster and plays better when called upon. He still conceivably could grow, but time is running out.
Odds of making the roster: 50/50
