Jets Roster Analysis: Will James Carpenter Build Off a Strong First Year in Green and White?

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at James Carpenter.

Name: James Carpenter

Number: 77

Year With Jets: 2nd

Projected Role: Starting left guard

His 2015: Carpenter was part of Mike Maccagnan's big free agent haul in 2015. Despite a great deal of skepticism about his signing from many places (including yours truly), Carpenter put aside the injury and conditioning issues that plagued him in the past and had a successful debut season in New York. He probably was the most consistent lineman the Jets had from start to finish.

2016 will be a success if: Carpenter's second year in New York is similar to his first. The offensive line is currently full of question marks. Nobody knows what this team is getting out of Ryan Clady. The right side of the line is a total unknown. Carpenter has to be a source of stability.

Odds of making the roster: Lock (>99%)
