As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Deon Simon.
Name: Deon Simon
Number: 93
Year With Jets: 2nd Training Camp
Projected Role: Backup Nose Tackle
His 2015: The Jets picked Simon in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. He initially made the roster, but was cut after being inactive for the first three games. The Jets signed him to the practice squad.
2016 will be a success if: Simon can make the roster and give the Jets a few quality snaps each game to give the big guys some rest. The natural comparison people have made is Damon Harrison, another small school nose tackle prospect. Harrison became a force in his second NFL season after sitting in year one. Any expectations of Simon turning into a player of Harrison's caliber is probably unfair. For now, being a quality rotation player in limited spots would be a win.
Odds of making the roster: 50/50
