Jets Roster Analysis: Can Lawrence Thomas Do Enough to Earn a Spot on the Team?

As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Lawrence Thomas.

Name: Lawrence Thomas

Number: 97

Year With Jets: 1st

Projected Role: Camp Body/Practice Squad Contender

His 2015: Thomas finished out his college career recording 38 tackles and 3 sacks on the defensive line of the Big Ten Champion Michigan State Spartans. After going undrafted, the Jets signed him as an undrafted free agent.

2016 will be a success if: Thomas shows enough in training camp and the preseason to earn a spot on the practice squad. He does have the frame and the athletic ability to potentially perform on the defensive line in the NFL. The problem is the Jets are not exactly a land of opportunity on the defensive line this year. Five spots are virtually locked up before camp even begins by Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, Leonard Williams, Steve McLendon, and Jarvis Jenkins. Thomas' best chance is to carve out a spot on the practice squad.

Odds of Making the Roster: Long Shot (under 25%)
