As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Jarvis Jenkins.
Name: Jarvis Jenkins
Year With Jets: 1st
Projected Role: Backup/Rotational Defensive Lineman
His 2015: After a disappointing four years in Washington, the former second round pick went to Chicago on a one year deal. Jenkins started 15 games and played over 60% of the snaps for the Bears. He recorded 4 sacks, but his level of play was less than spectacular, leaving him to take a backup role with the Jets.
2016 will be a success if: He can effectively handle the bulk of the snaps that went to Leger Douzable and Stephen Bowen in 2015. Unless there are injuries, Jenkins is likely the fifth defensive lineman on the roster at best. Given the amount of money he is making and how few snaps he is projected to get, one cannot help but wonder whether the original plan for the Jets was to trade Muhammad Wilkerson and give Jenkins a role of substance.
Odds of Making the Roster: Lock (>99%)
