Jets Select Jordan Jenkins With the 83rd Pick in the 2016 NFL Draft

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets have selected Georgia linebacker Jordan Jenkins with the 83rd pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

It had been reported recently that the Jets sent head coach Todd Bowles and defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers to Georgia to conduct private workouts with Jenkins and fellow Georgia prospect Leonard Floyd.

For the second straight year, the Jets add an edge rusher in the third round. Last season it was Lorenzo Mauldin. As the Louisville product prepares to step into the starting lineup, he will have a new teammate playing his position. Mike Maccagnan has discussed building a pipeline of young outside linebackers like the Pittsburgh Steelers have through the years.

Many view him as less of a pass rusher than an edge setter. While I think there might be something to that, I personally think he was a bit underrated in terms of athleticism and ability to get after the quarterback. In some ways, I liked him better than his teammate who went in the first round.
