Ian Rapoport says the Jets are planning to have rookie quarterback Christian Hackenberg sit as a rookie.
#Jets plan to sit Christian Hackenberg, let him grow. They've believed in the player for a while. Expect a Ryan Fitzpatrick deal to be 1r

Fitzpatrick was always going to be a stopgap player. I said before the Draft that I did not think the Jets selecting a quarterback would impact the strategy on Fitzpatrick. You never want to be in a situation where a rookie is pressed into starting action because there is no alternative. This team has tried that the last two times. Fitzpatrick signing also would not make the Jets less likely to take a signal caller. He is an average veteran stopgap near the end of his career. He was not a long-term solution, and the Jets would be unwise to commit to him as though he was one.
