There have been rumors over the last few days that the Jets had interest in free agent guard J.R. Sweezy. Today the former Seahawk signed with Tampa Bay.

As I mentioned earlier in the week, the thought of Sweezy did not exactly leave me enthused. He has been an inconsistent player during his career. The Jets have signed a player off Seattle's offensive line in each of the last two offseasons. One of those has worked out, James Carpenter. The other, Breno Giacomini, has not. In any event, the offensive line has been one of the major weaknesses of a loaded Seattle roster through the years. This is not the position group to stockpile players. Sweezy would have cost the Jets more than what they had without providing a major upgrade.
