NFL free agency officially begins at 4:00 p.m. Eastern today. Teams have been able to talk with agents over the last few days. Today players can talk directly to teams, visits can be conducted, and contracts can officially be signed.
Even though free agency has not officially started, it seems like the Jets are already down a running back. Chris Ivory appears likely to be on his way to the Jaguars on a contract that will pay him handsomely.
As many have noted, this is unlikely to be a very active free agent period for the Jets unlike last season. Their cap situation dictates it. The Jets will likely sit out the first wave of signings where the dollar amounts tend to be very high. Their most active period might be during the second wave when there might be more modest signings.
