Jets Free Agency: Nick Fairley Drawing Interest?

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Manish Mehta reports the Jets view free agent defensive lineman Nick Fairley as a potential option in free agency.

The Jets' talented and deep defensive line might be the heartbeat of their team, but that won't preclude the brain trust from adding another piece if necessary.

The Daily News has learned that Gang Green is interested in free agent defensive tackle Nick Fairley as part of a contingency plan should they lose one or more key pieces up front.

Fairley doesn't really profile as a replacement for run stuffing nose tackle Damon Harrison. The 6'4" 308 pounder seems like more of a fit as a defensive end in three man fronts and tackle in four man fronts, perhaps a Muhammad Wilkerson replacement.

Talent has never been an issue with Fairley. The former first round pick spent his first four seasons with the Lions before moving to the Rams last year. The issues with Fairley have been more about things like attitude and conditioning. It could be a buy low proposition on a major talent.
