Free agent linebacker Bruce Carter visited the Jets Wednesday.
Carter was a free agency flop for the Bucs a year ago. After signing a $17 million contract, he lost his starting job in training camp to a rookie. He did play well enough in Dallas to get that contract, though.
He was a second round pick in 2011 out of North Carolina with a reputation for athleticism and decent play in pass coverage.
If the Jets could get Carter for cheap, I think it would make sense to sign him. The team needs depth at inside linebacker. Erin Henderson has been re-signed to take Demario Davis' starting role, but that leaves a vacancy in Henderson's backup role. Perhaps Carter is the guy to fill it.
