The league meetings continue in Boca Raton, Florida, today.
Entering the offseason the two most important free agents the Jets had were Muhammad Wilkerson and Ryan Fitzpatrick. The situations of both remain unsettled. For Fitzpatrick, there has not been much movement.
Wilkerson was given the franchise tag by the Jets. We have heard little about progress on a new deal for him. There also has not been much talk of a potential trade. Yesterday that changed a bit. A rumor floated by Tony Pauline suggested the Jets were shopping Wilkerson at Florida's pro day. There still is a long way to go to conclude Wilkerson will not be on the Jets next year, though. Any team that trades for him will probably want a new contract worked out before the trade goes through. And all of this assumes the Jets are dead set on trading Wilkerson rather than seeing whether they are blown away by an offer. And all of that assumes this rumor is even valid.
This is a long way of saying sit tight. This situation is going to take a while to play itself out.
