The Jets recently had free agent tight end Josh Hill to Florham Park for a visit. He has signed an offer sheet with the Chicago Bears, however.
The Bears signed Hill, a restricted free agent from the New Orleans Saints, to an offer sheet for a three-year contract on Tuesday, according to an NFL source. The deal is believed to be worth close to $2 million per season but the details of how it is structured is not yet known.
Since Hill is a restricted free agent, the Saints will have the opportunity to match the offer. If they choose not to do so, Hill will go to the Bears. Either way, the Jets cannot sign him at this point.
The Jets need to upgrade their tight end position, but I am not convinced Hill was even better than what they have. He had an opportunity last year to emerge after the Saints traded Jimmy Graham but never did so.
