ESPN's Todd McShay has released his third mock draft of 2016. Jr has the Jets taking a pass rusher in the first round.
20. New York Jets
Noah Spence, OLB, Eastern Kentucky
How the Jets handle free agency will dictate the importance of drafting a running back or a quarterback (Paxton Lynch?) here. With a ton of dominoes still to fall, I'll give them Spence, who turned in a disappointing performance at the combine after showing rare quickness and bend around the edge at the Senior Bowl. He's a confounding prospect, especially when it comes to his personal character, but some team is going to fall in love with his ceiling.
As McShay notes, many viewed Spence as one of the Combine's biggest losers. He turned in a disappointing 40 time of 4.8.
Perhaps just as disturbing, some teams were reportedly turned off by face to face meetings.
According to Jones, multiple clubs thought Spence's interviews were "very shaky." That doesn't bode well for a player who had to convince teams that his failed drug tests are behind him.
I am well past the days where I felt like I could prognosticate the Draft with any degree of certainty. With that said, Spence has always felt to me like a stretch in the first round. He seemed like he might have needed a perfect stretch between his last game and the Draft, and that does not seem to be happening.
