Yesterday the Jets announced cornerback Darrelle Revis had surgery due to a wrist injury. It was sustained at some point during the season. Florio says that point was very early.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Revis initially injured the wrist back in Week Three of the 2015 regular season. He thought it would improve with time, but it never did.
From a distance, it seems a bit odd that it would linger for almost the entire season without a further examination and a correct diagnosis eventually coming.
In any event, there had been a lot of surprise over how infrequently Revis played press coverage during the season. He seemed to leave cushion for receivers much more frequently than he had. It seems like the wrist might have been a factor in that. It is not difficult to see how a wrist injury might prevent a cornerback from being physical at the line of scrimmage.
Revis had a few rough games, turning in a season below his usual standards but still made his seventh Pro Bowl. He is expected to be ready by training camp.
