Jets guard Willie Colon was a guest on a Sirius XM radio show earlier in the week and discussed the ways in which Todd Bowles made things different.
"[Bowles] changed the culture in that team," Jets offensive lineman Willie Colon said in an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "Everybody knows the circus Rex and Idzik was and everything they went through, and we had to go through.
"Todd, coming in, was pretty much able to hold everyone accountable and get guys to be professionals."
It is no secret that the Jets were not a well oiled machine in the year before Bowles and Mike Maccagnan arrived in town. The team's performance and overall talent level were clear indications.
What strikes me here is how outside perception seems to meet reality. Sometimes you perceive things on the outside of the team's facilities, and it is the total opposite inside them. In this case, everything that appeared to be wrong on the outside seemed to also be wrong on the inside.
You cannot view one season as a complete fix. After the first year of their last three head coaches, the Jets seemed to be heading in the right direction, but they ultimately were unable to sustain their early success. It still is good to hear guys who were there both before and after the change talk about the new direction in a positive way.
