SB Nation Mocks CB Vernon Hargreaves To The Jets

SB Nation released their post combine mock draft today and it had the Jets taking a highly talented corner from Florida.

With the release of Antonio Cromartie, many draft analysts have suggested that the Jets would be wise to look at the available corners in the NFL Draft. After all, Buster Skrine is more suited to playing inside, Revis isn't getting younger, Milliner can't stay healthy and Marcus Williams could be a one hit wonder. The logic is sound, and as many coaches have said throughout the years, you can never had enough corners. That rings truer today than ever before with the league focusing heavily on passing offenses.

So let us take a quick look at Dan Kadar's mock draft that was released this morning:

With Antonio Cromartie gone, the Jets need a good corner opposite Darrelle Revis. Buster Skrine is at his best in the slot, and Dee Milliner has been a disappointment thus far. Hargreaves could slip this far in the draft because he doesn't have the arm length some want in an outside corner. He's a natural in coverage, though, and would be a steal this late in the first round.

Hargreaves has slipped down many boards this off-season for no apparent reason. There was a time where you couldn't find a mock draft that had Vernon outside the top 10. However nobody doubts the talent that he has, despite the lack of ideal length that he seems to possess.

Here's what I like about Hargreaves III in a nutshell. He's quick and explosive, he plays with excellent balance and instincts and never passes up a chance to hit someone. He reads the QB better than most and he's extremely fluid when changing directions. He has good hands and he's a competitive player who fights for every single ball. He also comes up and plays the run with authority. The downside? He's a little shorter than you like, he doesn't have the ideal length and he can be over aggressive.

For me, the positives far outweigh the negatives and we do need to consider life after Revis. Corner may not be out most glaring need after splashing the cash on Revis, Cromartie and Skrine, but if you have the chance to grab an impact player like Vernon, a guy who could become one of the elite corners in the league...then you make that selection.
