Jets Offseason Moves: Team Waives Kyle Brindza

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets announced that they have waived kicker Kyle Brindza.

Brindza had been recently signed by the team to a reserve/future contract. However, he recently ruptured his Achilles tendon, an injury that will cost him the entire 2016 season.

It was a really tough break for the young kicker, but this was a necessary move for the Jets. Teams only are allowed 90 spots in training camp, and Brindza was occupying one of them. The team clearly would not be wise to dedicate a spot to a kicker who cannot kick.

Brindza briefly kicked for Tampa Bay as a rookie last season after an August trade brought him there from Detroit. He struggled, making only 6 of 12 field goals and 6 of 8 extra points. The Buccaneers released him in October, and he did not find a team until the Jets came calling.
