Ryan Fitzpatrick Will Start for Jets vs. Bills

With Bryce Petty out for the season, the Jets needed to name a new starting quarterback for Sunday’s finale against the Bills. It will be veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick.

I’m not surprised. I had a hunch the Jets would go with Fitzpatrick. I am a bit disappointed, though. I’m not sure what is accomplished by having Fitzpatrick start this game.

I don’t think it would do much to move the needle for Christian Hackenberg, but there are at least some things he would be able to take from it. He could get the experience of practicing and preparing as the starter for a full week. He also would actually get some experience in live game action in a very low pressure environment. Hackenberg will be on the team next season. Fitzpatrick will not. Why not at least spend a week building for the future?

Even if Hackenberg looks bad in practice, it isn’t like playing one bad game would ruin his career.
