Todd McShay Mocks Tim Williams To Jets

ESPN expert Todd McShay has released his first mock draft of the season, and he has the Jets selecting Alabama OLB prospect Tim Williams slotted in for the Jets.

This isn't really a name that has been mentioned very often with the Jets, so it's interesting to see Todd mention him:

Williams is disruptive -- if a little inconsistent -- with excellent first-step quickness off the edge. Nearly all of his tackles for loss this season came against SEC opponents (14 of the 15.5 total). A pass-rusher could very well be near the top of the Jets' needs by the time April rolls around.

McShay is right that a pass rusher may well be near the top of our ever growing list of needs, and I agree with his assessment 100%. He's got a wicked first step, but is extremely inconsistent at times.

This year Williams totalled 8.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for a loss on a loaded Alabama defensive unit. However he's certainly no one hit wonder, last year he chalked up 9.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for a loss.

He's a fantastic pass rusher no doubt, but right now he's not a 3 down backer. His instincts against the run are extremely average and I've seen him get swallowed up by a fair few college tackles, let alone NFL ones. Right now he's a great guy to have on 3rd down passing situations because his first step is elite, showing explosion and a lot of upper body power.

He'd certainly be an interesting addition to our young linebacker core.
