The New York Jets have signed tight end Eric Tomlinson off the Houston Texans’ practice squad. To make room for Tomlinson the Jets waived outside linebacker Victor Ochi.
Eric Tomlinson is a 6' 6", 270 pound 24 year old blocking tight end out of the University of Texas El Paso. Tomlinson was originally signed in 2015 as an undrafted free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles. In his four year college career, Tomlinson was mainly employed as an in-line blocker. He had 59 receptions for 547 yards and four touchdowns at UTEP.
The Philadelphia Eagles released Tomlinson during the final roster cuts on Sept. 4, 2015. On September 6, 2015 Tomlinson was signed to the Texans’ practice squad, where he spent his entire 2015 season.
The signing of Tomlinson by the Jets may indicate Kellen Davis is not expected back any time soon, as Tomlinson, having been poached from the Texans practice squad, will have to be kept on the 53 man roster a minimum of three weeks.
Ochi was signed to the Jets practice squad in September before being promoted to the 53 man roster in Week 7. He had one assisted tackle with the Jets.
