SNF: Chiefs vs Broncos Game Thread

An AFC West showdown in Mile High stadium.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Sunday Night Football, Week 12. Tonight we have an AFC West clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos. This was supposed to be the Jets/Patriots game this week, but the Jets are so bad they got flexed out of the prime time slot, and instead the 7-3 Chiefs travel to Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado to take on the 7-3 Broncos in a game with major playoff implications.

In some ways these two teams are very much alike. Both teams struggle to score on offense while excelling at keeping opposing offenses from scoring. Both teams prefer to run the ball but struggle to do so effectively. Both teams run conservative passing attacks. The two teams rank 1 and 2 in turnovers generated defensively.

The Chiefs come into this game having won five of their last six games and having held five of their last six opponents under 20 points. They have been hurt by injuries to top running backs Jamaal Charles and Spencer Ware, and rely on their defense and conservative game managing by quarterback Alex Smith to keep them in games.

The defending Super Bowl Champion Broncos come into the game having lost three of their last six games and are suddenly looking vulnerable on defense, having surrendered 21 or more points in four of their last six contests. The Broncos offense is led by quarterback Trevor Siemian and wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas.

The winner of this game gets to 8-3 and remains in contention for first place in the AFC West and a first round bye in the playoffs. The loser goes to 7-4 and is in danger of dropping to the sixth seed in the AFC playoffs.
