With the Jets offensive tackle situation grown dangerously thin, the Jets have activated tackle Breno Giacomini from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
The veteran right tackle Giacomini hasn’t played in an NFL game since the 2015 season. He has been sidelined since May with a back injury. Giacomini, along with wide receiver Devin Smith, who is recovering from a torn ACL, was required to miss a minimum of six weeks of NFL action after having been placed on the PUP list to start the season.
For Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns starting left tackle Ryan Clady is listed as questionable with a shoulder injury. He will be a game-time decision. Backup tackle Brent Qvale is also expected to miss Sunday's game with an injury. Offensive tackle Ben Ijalana, who has been filling in on the right side in Giacomini's absence, would likely slide over to the left tackle spot if Clady can't go on Sunday. Giacomini would likely reclaim his right tackle spot in that scenario.
In order to make room on the roster for Giacomini the Jets have waived recently signed wide receiver Jeremy Butler. Butler never saw action for the Jets.
