NY Jets Roster Moves

Mr. Smith goes to injured reserve, the Jets are Jonesing for Taiwan, we got a Friend, and other sundry roster happenings.

The New York Jets have placed quarterback Geno Smith on the injured reserve list with a torn ACL, effectively ending Smith's season and likely ending his tenure with the Jets.  Replacing Smith on the 53 man roster is inside linebacker Taiwan Jones.

In other recent roster moves the Jets released wide receiver Myles White from the practice squad and signed center Kyle Friend, linebacker Reshard Cliett and defensive tackle Brandin Bryant to the practice squad.

Cliett was a sixth-round pick of the Houston Texans in the 2015 NFL Draft.  At the University of South Florida Cliett recorded 139 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and nine sacks.   He tore an ACL and his lateral meniscus during the Texans’ training camp in 2015 and spent his rookie season on injured reserve.

Friend was a three-time captain and four-year letter winner at Temple University.   Friend was signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent after the 2016 NFL draft.  He played 22 snaps in two preseason games before he was waived on Aug. 28, 2016.

Brandin Bryant was originally signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent after the 2016 NFL Draft. Bryant played his college ball at Florida Atlantic University, where he registered five sacks last season.  For his college career Bryant accumulated 130 tackles and 13.5 sacks. He was a workout warrior at the 2016 NFL Combine, putting up 38 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press, tops among all defensive linemen.
