Jets Week 7 Game Ball: Sheldon Richardson

The Jets have won a game. That means we give out a game ball (or anti-anti game ball if you will) this week. The normal rules apply, namely avoiding the quarterback and repeat winners whenever possible.

This week my game ball is going to Sheldon Richardson. He led the Jets with 8 tackles. He had a sack. He was otherwise totally disruptive. With Muhammad Wilkerson out, Richardson seemed to move around less. The result was an unblockable force in contrast with the fish out of water we saw from how frequently the Jets were using him in space.

I am sure this game will make some people say the Jets can’t maximize the production with all of their linemen in the game. I’m not sure I agree. It’s not like there is a lack of examples of teams in recent NFL history that had good defenses and three 300 pound linemen.

I think more than anything it shows the Jets need to stop being so cute with the way they use Richardson and let him go back to dominating along the line.
