Jets Sign 9 Players To Reserve/Future Contracts

The Jets are wasting no time getting players signed for the new league year.

As John mentioned yesterday, you'll see a lot of articles over the next week or two relating to future contracts, as John noted, a reserve/future contract is:

Every team is allowed to bring 90 players to training camp. At the end of the season, teams only have 53 players on their active roster. They are allowed to start signing players for camp the next year. The players they are allowed to sign are those not currently on an active roster, such as players on their practice squad. Teams may also sign players off the practice squads of other teams or players who are out of the league.

It is called a futures deal because these players are being signed for a season that has not yet begun. These are largely camp body types, but teams are looking under every rock for talent.

The Jets announced the signing of 9 players to such contracts yesterday.

Joe Anderson, WR

Deion Barnes, OLB

Brandon Bostick, TE

Jarvis Harrison, G

Julian Howsare, OLB

Wes Saxton, TE

Kevin Short, CB

Deon Simon, NT

Julian Stanford, OLB

You should recognize a lot of the names above. Especially Harrison and Simon, two draft picks for the Jets in 2015. All 9 of the players above were on the practice squad to end the season, although they didn't all start the year there.

Are there any stars in here? Who knows, I guess that's why you sign them and bring them to camp. A lot of people like Julian Howsare and his potential, myself included. He was a UDFA from division II Clarion, he is an outside linebacker by trade, but he was also getting reps at fullback before being cut and signed to the practice squad.
