Jets Offseason Rumors: Team Has Begun Negotiating With Erin Henderson

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Dom Cosentino is a Jets beat writer working hard at the Senior Bowl, and he has a scoop on the team's negotiations with a free agent linebacker to be.

The Jets and one of Henderson's representatives met Wednesday night at the Senior Bowl to begin negotiating a new contract, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. That person spoke to NJ Advance Media on condition of anonymity.

Henderson can become an unrestricted free agent in March, but the two sides are optimistic a deal will get done first, the person said.

This would make a lot of sense. Henderson was more effective than the other free agent the Jets have at the position, Demario Davis. He also might come cheaper as he is still trying to rebuild his career after it was derailed by personal demons.

As Cosentino notes, the team is unlikely to bring back Davis. It is tough to argue with the thinking.
