Ryan Fitzpatrick: Contract Negotiations to Begin in Near Future

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

On WFAN's Boomer and Carton today Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan indicated negotiations for a new contract for quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will begin soon.

"We're going to talk to Ryan's people here in the very near future," general manager Mike Maccagnan said Friday morning on WFAN radio's "Boomer and Carton Show."

"We have time, obviously, before free agency, and we really would like to get Ryan back in the fold. [Head coach] Todd [Bowles] has said that. Obviously, myself and the rest of the organization feel very strongly about this.

"I think it's a good situation for all of us, and we just have to go through this process, and hopefully we can come to an agreement where it's fair and everybody's happy with it going forward."

It feels like a new contract makes too much sense for everybody for something to not get done quickly. Fitzpatrick has more value to the Jets than he does for any other team, and the Jets are better fit for Fitzpatrick than any other team.
