Willie Colon Named Starting Right Guard

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets entered training camp with few genuine competitions for starting roles. Right guard was an exception. An open competition has ended with incumbent Willie Colon getting the nod. Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed it today.

Bowles had indicated in the past that Colon was leading the competition for the starting job.

The Jets had a number of young, unheralded players with an opportunity to step up. It is a little disappointing that none of them did. Oday Aboushi in particular has seemingly not impressed the coaches despite starting 10 games at left guard last season. Aboushi even making the final roster seems to be very much in doubt at this point.

The 32 year old Colon has started all 32 games over the last two seasons at right guard for the Jets.
