New York Jets: Five Pointing Up

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

Last night's effort from the Jets was very good. There are definitely more than five players who are pointing up after the win, but we will limit ourselves to five for the sake of saving space.

Chris Ivory

Ivory entered training camp as the top back, but we have seen old stalwarts like Jeremy Kerley lose standing with the new coaching staff. Ivory finished a strong preseason with 38 yards on 6 carries. His blocking was solid but not spectacular. Ivory was creating a lot of the yardage on his own.

Marcus Gilchrist

I will put Gilchrist here because this was the first time I was impressed by his play. He finished third on the team with 4 tackles. He made a couple in the open field that would have gone for a big gain had he missed.

Leger Douzable

He got plenty of work with the first team, and he played well. He registered a sack and beat the blocking clean a second time, which forced Eli Manning off his spot in the pocket. He also had a nice run stop. Defensive line roster spots will not be easy to come by, and Douzable made a strong case for his.

Rontez Miles

His first preseason game was so ugly that I did not see how he could make the roster. He stuck out playing with the backups last night. Miles was second on the team with 6 tackles. He showed a good nose for the football. He took good angles and showed nice range on a number of his plays.

Trevor Reilly

Because of all the injuries at linebacker, he got the start. Early in the game, he did not bite on a fake and proceeded to get into Eli Manning's face to destroy a play. He put up half a sack later and seemed to execute most of his assignments well.
