Welcome to the TAN, the infamous Thread About Nothing, Wipe Out edition. Wipe Out is a blast from my past. It was originally recorded by the Surfaris as the B side of the Surfer Joe record, but quickly surpassed the A side Surfer Joe, became a cult hit and rose as high as number 2 on the charts. The song – both the Surfaris' version as well as cover versions – has been featured in over 20 films and television series since 1964. The Surfaris wrote Wipe Out almost on a lark, to fill the B side of the Surfer Joe single. The afterthought track spent four months on the national Billboard chart in the autumn of 1963, reaching #2. The smash hit Wipe Out returned to the charts in 1966, reaching #16 in Billboard in its second national chart run. Fun fact: Ron Wilson's iconic drum solo in Wipe Out was a greatly sped-up version of his Charter Oak High School marching band's drum cadence.
Here are the TAN rules. Memorize them. There will be a quiz at the end of this thread.
1) No politics, no personal attacks, no excessive swearing, no porn, no graphic violence/ gore.
2) I have ultimate, mind boggling authority. If I or any other moderators or editors say drop it, let it go. Please don't argue. It won't end well.
3) If there is a problem email me at macgregorwells@yahoo.com and we'll try to work things out.
And now, Wipe Out!
