Jets Sign Jarrod West

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets had a roster opening after waiving J.C. Copeland. They have filled it by signing undrafted rookie Jarrod West.

West got an invite to rookie minicamp a few months back. Now he has more of a chance to gain a role. He posted 49 catches for 700 yards last season with Syracuse. He might be competing more for a practice squad slot than a roster spot.

I am interested to see how active the Jets are in their transactions during training camp. Was the quick ouster of Copeland a sign of things to come? We don't know Mike Maccagnan's philosophies yet. Does he take a Ron Wolf/John Schneider approach and constantly shake up the bottom of the roster? This approach allows a team to get a look at as many different scrap heap players as possible to get an idea as to which ones are worth keeping.

Only time will tell whether this is the way Maccagnan wants to operate.
