There have been numerous reports that Geno Smith would miss 6-10 weeks following his jaw surgery. That would bring Smith back roughly around Week Four, at the earliest. However, Smith has already returned to practice today, according to multiple reports. Although Smith is not yet fully practicing, he was able to stretch with the team and run a warm-up jog.
It's certainly an encouraging sign that Smith will be able to return earlier than expected. As I've said before, I'm of the opinion that if Smith is actually out 6-10 weeks, it won't be for medical reasons, but because the team wanted to bench him and let Ryan Fitzpatrick play. Perhaps Fitzpatrick's uninspiring two preseason games are now resulting in the team letting Smith back earlier than they had originally wanted. Who knows. I guess we'll find out soon enough if Smith starts to practice fully.
