It's customary for the first pre-season game to come and go without much fan-fare. Unless you've got a big rookie quarterback, the game is completely Vanilla, with it being more about running at full speed than implementing any great strategy. The teams show very little and absolutely no game-planning is completed during the week prior.
However the 2nd pre-season game is a little different. The starters are in for a few series, and Bowles has confirmed today that the starters will actually play upwards of 2 quarters of football. Ryan Fitzpatrick confirmed earlier this week that there is a little more game-planning for the Falcons and the offense and defense will be closer to complete installation.
What we see on the field tomorrow night, won't be the complete play-books, and it won't be everyone going 100%. After seeing what happened to Kelvin Benjamin and Louis Delmas in practice this week, players will still be conscious about avoiding any serious injuries. However the Jets will want to show their fans more than they did in week one after getting largely outplayed by the Detroit Lions.
Some quick notes on the game:
Muhammad Wilkerson will not play, he is still sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Erin Henderson won't play either, he's week-to-week with his injury.
Matt Flynn won't play, he's only just signed and has been suffering with a hamstring injury.
Calvin Pryor also won't play and there is no timetable for his return.
Ronald Talley won't play, he's suffering with a groin injury at the moment.
Geno Smith won't be on the sideline, as it's team policy to have no injured players there.
Sheldon Richardson will play a lot more this week and get his reps up ahead of his suspension.
Quarterback Jake Heaps may get into the game late, depending on how Petty is throwing.
James Carpenter should play after he tweaked his ankle, that's a minor injury.
