Jets rookie wide receiver Devin Smith thinks he will be ready to return by Week 1.

It is good to hear Smith is progressing from his broken ribs and punctured lung. It is not clear how much playing time he will get even if he is ready to return, though.
It was always a bit of a stretch to expect Smith to be more than a bit player on offense at least in year one. He has ability as a deep threat, but his game needs refinement in areas like route running and reading coverages. His best chances to get experience for this year might have been the reps he has lost and will continue to lose in training camp and the preseason.
Smith might be able to help on special teams quicker than offense.
