Jets cornerback Dee Milliner is not beginning training camp on the physically unable to perform list. He is able to practice with the team starting tomorrow.
This is a mild surprise. Milliner is coming off a serious Achilles injury he sustained last October. It stood to reason the Jets were concerned with his health after spending to bring in three veteran corners in the offseason.
It is certainly good news for Milliner's development to start in camp on time. He will still have to work for his playing time. A year ago now he was the undisputed number one cornerback on the roster. Now the 2013 first round pick is going to have to earn the number four spot. While I think it is much more likely than not he will make the final roster, I'm not sure Dee is a 100% lock if the perfect storm hits. He could use a strong camp.
Milliner will be resigned to subpackages, but Todd Bowles has shown a tendency to get extra defensive backs onto the field. From a Jets standpoint, this could help Dee find some success by taking easier matchups against the other team's fourth and fifth targets. Maybe with a little success, he can build confidence and grow from there.
