Good afternoon, Gang Green Gangsters! Have you been enjoying Chris Rupple's Throwback Thursdays? Well, somehow, it inspired me to do a Flashback Friday. I'm full of ideas like that.
Anyway, posting Wayne Chrebet's picture a few days ago and seeing Todd Bowles' hat kind of made me nostalgic for the old New York Jets uniforms. I became a Jets fan in 1993 when the team was wearing kelly greens, and while I prefer the current new retro gear they wear, I'm missing the unis of the 1980s and 1990s more and more. I wouldn't want them to fully switch back, but some throwback games would be welcome.
What would make this complicated, however, is the NFL's rule regarding the players' helmets. For their safety, players are required to use the same helmet throughout the season. Therefore, players would not be allowed to wear the '80s helmet for one game while wearing the current helmet for the rest of the season. Wearing the current helmet with the '90s uniform might look awkward. How would you feel about that solution?
You can also probably just slap a sticker over the present oval Jets logo and put the 1978-1997 J-E-T-S with the plane logo on top of it. You would still have the two stripes in the middle though. I don't know. I'm not quite sure how you would get around it.
For now, let's just flashback to the 1980s and 1990s and take a look at the New York Jets in pictures.
