The Jets announced today they have waived/injured tight end Zach Sudfeld and signed a replacement.
The Jets have waived/injured tight end Zach Sudfeld and have signed tight end Steve Maneri.
Sudfeld, who suffered a torn ACL during last week's full-squad minicamp, came to the Jets on waivers from New England in 2013 and played in 27 Jets games the past two seasons with 10 receptions for 148 yards. Last year he led the Green & White special teams with 20 kick-coverage tackles.
You have to feel for Sudfeld who was reportedly hurt after being hit by Calvin Pryor during a noncontact drill.
This does not necessarily mean the end of Sudfeld's Jets career. The Jets needed to waive him to clear out an extra training camp spot for a player who is able. There is something of an unwritten rule in the league that other teams do not put in a claim for a player under these circumstances.
