What Will New York Jets Rookie Leonard Williams' NFL Contract Look Like?

The rookie wage scale gives us a general idea of how much drafted rookies will make in the NFL.

Gone are the days of monumental rookie contracts. The rookie wage scale gives us a general idea of how much drafted rookies will make in the NFL.

For Leonard Williams, Forbes estimates the total value of his contract will be around $16.5 million. Spotrac has his first year minimum cap hit coming in at shade under $3.4 million. It is a four year contract, and the New York Jets will get an additional team option for a fifth year.

You frequently hear talk about the importance of drafting well, and this might be the biggest reason. As you probably know, the NFL has a salary cap. Think about the amount of money it cost the Jets to get a premium player, Darrelle Revis, in free agency. The Draft is a chance to add impact at a big discount.

The Jets are going to pay approximately the same amount to Revis in 2015 that they will pay Williams over the next four years combined.
