Bryce Petty Pick Approval Rating

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

I'll give the Jets some degree of credit for not jumping the gun and sinking a second or third round pick into Bryce Petty. A lot of people thought he was going to go on the second day. There was even a bit of buzz he might sneak into the late part of round one. There was some restraint shown here.

With that said, I'm not a fan of Petty. Using an early fourth rounder in a spot where there was still some very nice talent is something I'm having trouble getting behind. I don't think Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith is a winning combination, but I don't think the answer is adding Petty.

Petty is the typical toolsy prospect who doesn't have any experience executing NFL plays. He's very raw. The offense and concepts he ran at Baylor are nothing like what he'll run in the pros. I think this was a Hail Mary pick in the fourth round when there was legit talent available to the Jets.
