In what will undoubtedly not be remembered as the biggest news of the day, the Jets signed a pair of tryout players to contracts.
We have signed two tryout players: QB Jake Heaps & FB J.C. Copeland- http://t.co/bnmDw79AHj pic.twitter.com/q4fnuzJpiv

Heaps was a highly touted recruit coming out of high school. He bounced around multiple different colleges (BYU, Kansas, and Miami) but did not play consistently well. The story sounds like Matt Simms: The Sequel. Unless somebody gets hurt in the preseason, Heaps is probably competing for the number four quarterback role, which would likely come on the practice squad.
Copeland is a 271 pound lead blocking prospect out of LSU. He was in camp a year ago with the Dallas Cowboys but was cut before the end of preseason. Although the fullback position is becoming less and less important in the NFL, Copeland has a viable path to the roster as a specialist.
