Are you sick of Mock Drafts yet? Well if you are, you only have another 24 hours to hold out.
However I'm doing the rounds today with mock drafts, and Peter Kings is quite interesting. We're not drafting a quarterback, we're not drafting a receiver and we're not drafting an edge rusher, we're drafting:
6. N.Y. Jets: Andrus Peat, T, Stanford
Honestly, I hate this pick for this spot. I think Jets GM Mike Maccagnan very much wants to trade down here, and he may have a chance (with Atlanta, most likely), and this is too high for Peat. This is a much better spot for Kevin White, the West Virginia receiver. But there’s something about the heritage of Maccagnan and coach Todd Bowles that leads me to think they’re more concerned with buttressing each line (the defensive side doesn’t need it) while filling in the receiver in a deep crop of wideouts in round two.
Just as a note, King confirms that Kevin White would be the better option and the better value, and in this scenario Kevin White is still on the board, so I'm not sure why he thinks the new management team will elect for a reach if they can't trade down. It doesn't make a great deal of sense.
Let me just say that I'm a big fan of Andrus Peat. I think he has an enormous amount of talent and has the developmental capability to become a fine tackle in this league, will he settle on the right hand side of the line rather than the left? Quite possibly. However I agree with King that at #6 this is a reach and doesn't offer value for selection. In truth you could probably get Peat between selections 20-32, so I see this as an unlikely choice.
What do you think Jets fans?
