Jets Targeting Mike Iupati Aggressively

We've noticed a hint of frustration creeping into Jets fans today, but here is a little positive news.

According to Manish Mehta, the Jets are pursuing the pro bowl guard very aggressively.

The Jets need to address their line if they hope to develop any consistent quarterback play. Mike Iupati would go a long way to improving a very weak area of the team.

The Daily News has learned that the Jets are targeting three-time Pro Bowl guard Mike Iupati to improve a weak interior line in need of a facelift. The Jets were serious players for Broncos guard/tackle Orlando Franklin, according to sources, before the veteran agreed to terms on a deal with the Chargers on Sunday.

Mike has established himself as one of the best guards in the league since being drafted in 2010 and his run blocking is exceptional. After starting 83 games in his 5 year career on the left side of the line, if the Jets can lure the free agent to New York, he will make the left side of the line a dominant unit.

If we can bring in a top left guard, I fully expect D'Brickashaw Ferguson to improve at left tackle, playing next to an inexperienced guard can be tricky for a tackle, however with Ferguson, Iupati and Mangold, the Jets would have a great base.
