Former Seahawks cornerback Byron Maxwell is heading to Philadelphia.
I just got off the phone with CB Byron Maxwell. Maxwell told me directly, "I'm going to Philly." #Eagles

The Jets desperately need to improve their cornerback group, but on the surface that looks like a really bad contract. Maxwell is a nice player, but that is top ten cornerback money for a player who was an opening day starter for the first time in the NFL this past season.
There are some quality targets in the second tier of free agents, many of whom would represent a real upgrade. There also is the off chance the Jets could get Darrelle Revis. If you're going to give out huge money, it might as well be for the best in the league.
