According to Chase Goodbread, the Jets have a private workout scheduled with Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.
The Heisman Trophy winner has scheduled private workouts with the New York Jets on March 28, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on April 9 and the San Diego Chargers on April 15, according to a College Football 24/7 source. The Buccaneers hold the No. 1 overall pick of the NFL draft and are in need of a quarterback. Mariota's workout there could help the club decide between he and Florida State's Jameis Winston as the No. 1 pick of the draft.
There is nothing surprising here. With a top ten pick and a big need at quarterback, the team is going to examine a player like Mariota as much as it can.
Nobody can say how interested the Jets are in Mariota. The workout might play into the evaluation. I am sure there will be plenty of guesswork and smokescreens thrown out anyway.
