Jets Reach Out to Cecil Shorts

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Dom Cosentino reports the Jets are showing interest in Cecil Shorts III.

A person with knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media on Thursday the Jets have reached out to free agent wide receiver Cecil Shorts III, who spent the last four seasons with the Jaguars. That person asked to remain anonymous because the process is still playing out.

Shorts was a fourth round pick by Jacksonville out of Mount Union in 2011.

His most productive season in Jacksonville came in 2012 when he caught 55 balls for 979 yards and 7 touchdowns. Over the last two seasons, his stat lines have been 66-777-3 and 53-557-1.

I think he'd be a nice depth signing depending on the price. He has had problems with durability, but limiting his reps as a depth guy might help in this area. I wouldn't be happy with him as my top receiver, but he would be a pretty good fourth option.
