NFL Free Agency: Day 1 Recap

Well the new league year officially kicked off at 4:00pm EST yesterday and we had quite the day.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

First of all I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all our readers and commenters, yesterday was an amazing day for us here at GGN and we appreciate all the support, social shares and conversation that you create.

It was a busy day in the NFL and there is a lot to recap, so lets get started

New York Jets

Darrelle Revis comes home on a 5 year deal for $70 million with $39 million guaranteed. It may look like a steep price, but he is worth every penny for this franchise right now. I couldn't be happier that we have brought home one of the finest players I've ever seen play the game. He instantly improves the whole defense. Revis locking down one side of the field and the opposing #1 while Wilkerson and Richardson get after the quarterback? 2015 is going to be fun.

Buster Skrine also joined the team on a 4 year contract for $25 million with $13 million guaranteed. He made some plays on the football last year with his pass defenses and interception numbers but he also gave up 70 catches for 864 yards and 8 touchdowns. I'm willing to give him a shot in green and judge him in the Bowles system, but initially, I'm not that fond of this deal.

James Carpenter apparently signed on a 4 year $20 million deal. I like his pass blocking, I don't love his run blocking and his conditioning issues concern me, especially if we want to up the tempo with Chan Gailey. Saying that, he's still young, he has plenty of upside and he has improved his game the last two years, if we get him to improve just a little more, it's not a bad signing at all.

Bilal Powell was re-signed for another year and boy was he happy about it. I happen to really like Powells game, so I'm happy to see him back.

Reported Interest

Antonio Cromartie - We may tie up our 3rd corner in two days if we can agree with Antonio. Talks are ongoing.

Brooks Reed - We had interest, he signed with Atlanta on a 5 year deal.

Roy Helu - We had reported interest, but Helu decided to take his talent to Oakland.

Marcus Gilchrist - Will be visiting with us today, wouldn't bet against us offering him a contract.

Kendall Langford - We brought him in for a visit, but he decided to join the Indianapolis Colts

Clint Boling - We wanted him, no hint the Jets did. He signed with the Bengals

NFL - Big News

This is why the NFL is the most exciting league in the world.

The New Orleans Saints traded Jimmy Graham to the Seahawks for Max Unger and a 1st round pick.

The St Louis Rams and Philadelphia Eagles traded Sam Bradford for Nick Foles, a 2015 4th round pick and 2nd round pick in 2016. Time will tell, but I have a feeling the Rams will look back more fondly on this deal.

Baltimore traded Ngata to the Detroit Lions for a 2015 4th and 5th round draft selection

Frank Gore will be playing his football in Indianapolis after agreeing a deal with the Colts

Patrick Willis, Jason Worilds and Jake Locker retire, the NFL community scratches its head.

Torrey Smith will be moving to the Bay after agreeing a $40 mill deal with the 49'ers

That was just day one! We're ready for day two, with big moves still to come.

Could the Jets still be interested in C.J Spiller? Even after signing Bilal Powell?

Rahim Moore is still available, we've dedicated a lot of money to that secondary, but would anyone be against signing the best free safety left on the market?
