According to Yahoo Sports Rand Getlin, the Jets are one of five teams showing an interest in Houston Texans outside linebacker Brooks Reed. Although no contract can be signed until 4pm est, the Jets have had discussions about bringing in a player that new GM Mike Maccagnan is very familiar with.
Unfortunately, it seems as though the Atlanta Falcons are leading the race for the young outside linebacker and many expect him to sign for the Falcons shortly after the free agency period begins.
Reed had instant success as a rookie in 2011 recording 45 tackles and 6 sacks, however he never quite kicked on from there. Over the last two years he has been consistent without blowing anyone away with his production. Last season he had 41 tackles, 3 sacks and 1 interception while starting 13 games for the Texans.
Atlanta seriously needs to address its outside linebacker position, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them overpay for Reed. Although Reed only had 3 sacks, he did combine for 26 QB hurries and 6 QB hits and set the edge well in the run game.
Reed would be perfect for the Jets 3-4 base system and I would really like to have him as a member of the Jets, but it seems as though he'll slip away to the Falcons.
Arizona, Oakland and Chicago are the other teams showing an interest.
