According to multiple reports, pro bowl guard Mike Iupati will sign a deal with the Arizona Cardinals. The Jets were believed to be very interested in the former San Francisco 49'ers player but he elected to stay on the west coast with the Cardinals.
This is a blow to the Jets as the top two rated guards, Iupati and Franklin are slated to sign elsewhere. The Jets will turn their attention to Clint Boling and James Carpenter. Boling is by far the more attractive proposition, however according to Rich Cimini, Carpenter may be of more interest to the Jets.
Iupati is coming off a season where he was slowed by injury, but his ability to clear room in the run game made him a very attractive addition to any franchise. If the Jets walk away from free agency without either Boling or Carpenter, I think it will be considered a minor failure considering how poor the position has been the last couple of years.
Free agency is about to kick off today, and I fully expect the news to come flying in thick and fast, however Franklin and Iupati won't be arriving in New York, New York.
